Students from South Academy had a fantastic time celebrating Black History Month at the end of October, leading an extravaganza of music and dance hosted by Head of Geography Mr Oraeki. Students from the 5 houses took up the mantle of various African tribes and organise a tribal ‘musical, dance and dramatic performance, led by our fantastic team of House Dance Leaders Ivana, Sasha, Mutsa, Lucy and Hannah. Though hotly contested, Maple was crowned the overall winner of the House Tribe competition.
Mr Allen, Head of Performing Arts, noted “it was great to see so many of our students embracing the inter-house element of the Black History Celebration, and it set a high standard for the rest of the year. Students have clearly put a lot of work into making the evening one to remember, and it was great to see a sold-out theatre for our first performance of 2015/2016.”
Mrs Barr said that was ‘refreshing to see lots of new faces on stage” and praised the work of the student tech team working behind the scenes, to ensure the night ran smoothly and professionally.
A special congratulations to our Year 11 student leaders for organising their tribes so well, despite their many busy examination timetables.
