Towards the end of the Easter term the TSPA Gifted & Talented Coordinators Miss Aslam and Mr Whittle hosted a parent workshop for Year 9, 10 and 11 students. The morning workshop was an opportunity for parents to offer their skills, experiences and open up dialogue with our learners about aiming high and having self-belief.
It was a chance for the school community to work together to raise aspirations and hear from successful parents about the career paths they took, risks they took and problems they encountered along the way with guidance on how to overcome these.
Pupils were able to explore opportunities for employments outside of traditional routes and engage in conversations about taking their first steps into employment.
Special thanks to the parents who presented, and to Mr Whittle and Miss Aslam for organising the event.
I found the Parent Workshop useful because it helped me to understand how to write a CV and what to do in a job interview, which I did not know before. It will benefit me when it comes to getting a job in the future
Mya Saxby – Year 11 – Ash 10
The workshop informed me of how recruitment agencies can work for you and how to build up these relationships. It gave me an insight in the range of computing courses available that are work related.
Mohammed Khan – Year 11 – Ash 10
The advice given regarding apprenticeships allowed me to consider my future career from an entirely different perspective.
