The Shared Learning Trust is delighted to announce a highly positive set of GCSE results achieved by students at its Stockwood Park and Chalk Hills Academies.
The Stockwood Park Academy has achieved results which we believe will be above the national average, with a significant number of students achieving the new top grade of a 9 in English and Maths.
Principal Richard Found said; ‘In what has been a volatile year for education, with introduction of new courses and changes to assessment structures, I am delighted with the performance of our young people. Our students have worked hard throughout their courses, and this has been reflected in the progress they have made and grades they have achieved. I would like to thank all staff, as well of students, for this team effort. We will be welcoming many of our students back into the sixth form and wish all our young people the best for their continuing education’
As well as great above average results, subjects such as Business, Media and Chemistry have all achieved exceptional successes.
Some of the year's top performers are:
- Mazen Hussein: A* in Chemistry, Geography, Physics and Statistics, A in Biology, Computing and French, Distinction* in IT, 8 and 6 in English Literature and Language, and 9 in Maths.
- Yasmin Mukith: A* grades in Chemistry, Geography, Physics, Religious Studies and Sociology; A grades in Biology and Psychology, B grades in Statistics, Distinction* in IT, and grade 8 in English Language, English Literature and Maths.
- Kieron Patel: A* grades in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Statistics, A grades in Computing, French and Geography, Distinction* in IT, 8 in English Literature and grade 9 in both English Language and Maths.
- Abbie Robinson: A* and A grades in Chemistry, Biology, French, Geography, Physics and Psychology; B grades in Biology, Statistics, Sociology and Religious Studies; Distinction* in IT, Grade 7 in English Literature and 8 in both English Language and Maths.
Abbie said, "I want to thank my Science teachers because at the start of the year I did not think I could achieve these grades."
The students at the Chalk Hills Academy, located on Leagrave High Street, have achieved great success in a number of subjects this year despite concerns about the volatility of the results this year and the raising of the bar in terms of new examinations. We had improvements in the number of our students achieving A*/A and 9-7grades in a variety of subjects.
Principal Louise Lee said; “I am exceptionally proud of our staff and students – they have all shown such dedication and commitment. We wish our students all the best for the future, and look forward to working with those who will be going on to attend our sixth form in the next academic year”.
The Stockwood Park and Chalk Hills Academies are part of the Shared Learning Trust, a family of schools in Bedfordshire. CEO of the Trust, Cathy Barr said: “It has been an anxious wait for our staff and students with the introduction of new, more complex GCSE exams. As ever, we have risen to the challenge and I am thrilled for the students at both Stockwood Park and Chalk Hills Academy – their hard work has really paid off and many have achieved grades well beyond their targets. These results will stand them in such good stead as they move on into the next chapter of their education.
