Our vibrant PE team has been very busy in recent weeks, supporting our GCSE students through their GCSE examination, as well as preparing students for a range of competitions; most recently, athletics!
The Intermediate Athletics Cup was held last week, pitting Year 10 and 11 Stockwood Park students against the rest of Lutons secondary schools. Our young people represented the academy brilliantly, showing admirable team spirit and support for each other throughout the event.
Highlights of the event included Toufik Mitchell achieving second in the long jump, and valiantly fighting illness to qualify 2nd fastest for the 100m final before retiring ill. Abdi Mohammed came 2nd in the 1500 steeplechase and Ross Sharp won the boys’ javelin event.
Our female athletes also excelled, with Head Girl Sasha Joseph achieving 2nd place in the 800m, Nahla Bausi 2nd in the long jump and 3rd in discuss. Tionne White was recognised for her excellent effort in the high jump, and Gabriele Jureviciute making it through to the final of the 200m.
This week, it was our Junior students’ turn, with Year 8 and 9 students competing. Notable performances included; Isaac Tshikala winning 2 golds and a silver in the 100m, 200m and long Jump; Brian Diavua winning a gold and silver in the 200m and 300m; N. Samborska winning silver in the high jump and finally, the performance of the night coming from Ayham Saade winning the 1500m by 150metres.
“Our Junior athletes have been outstanding as a group with their performances tonight. They have worked hard with their teachers during lessons and this has been evident with the team finishing joint 1st overall.”, says Ms Nelson, Head of PE.
