ecently students from the Stockwood Park Academy participated in The Long Table Debate. The event gives young people a platform to share their thoughts and opinions on the current socio-political climate and give them an opportunity to discuss their ambitions for the future.
The two workshops leading up to the Long Table allowed students to explore 'what it means to be British' and the aim was for students to create and write up their own manifestos outlining their views and aspirations for their community.
The Long Table debate also included Spoken Word performances from Creative Writing students from Luton Sixth Form College, which focused on aspects of 'identity' and to challenge the negative perceptions of Luton.
This experience has enhanced our students public speaking skills and critical thinking, as well as helping our students to build confidence in the importance of their own opinions.
