Raising the Participation Age
The Government has changed the law around the age at which young people are allowed to leave compulsory education. This means that those students leaving school in Year 11 must now continue with their education until their 18th birthday but this does not mean having to stay at school until the age of 18. There are many options as follows:
- Full-time study in a Sixth Form, college or with a training provider
- Full-time work or volunteering combined with part-time education or training
- An Apprenticeship
Why change the law? The aim of this is to ensure that the next generation of young people have the skills necessary to compete in today’s job market.
